Audience Effects Theory

 passive audience -  audience that merely observes and consumes media content without critical engagement or personal interpretation .  active audience -   a group of individuals who actively engage with, interpret, and sometimes challenge the media messages they consume .  hypodermic needle theory - an outdated and simplistic model of mass communication that suggests the media has a direct, immediate, and powerful effect on its audience .  Re-watch the clip from Blue Planet above and write a paragraph analysing how elements of the clip offer the audience pleasures or gratifications (use media terminology from Uses and Gratifications theory and the 3 Vs - notes outlined above).  A typical  Blue Planet  clip provides various pleasures through  surveillance  and  entertainment  gratifications.   in this advert, the man is seen as in charge and in control, whereas the woman is doing exactly what he would like    in the image the man seems to be belittling the woman and treating her almost like shes a pet. this signifies that the woman is only their for the mans' satisfactory.  in this advert the woman has been presented to get everything perfectly read for when her husband comes home from work. the title connotes that the man has been satisfied by his wife and flaunting it.

  the picture: this advert has a rainbow made up of all the colours of the original skittles. This connotes that each colour has different flavours. the rainbow can also resemble joy which links to feeling joy when you eat a skittle. the logo: the advert holds the logo right in the centre. This makes the name stand out more, it is also a very simple and basic logo making it easy to recognise. the background: the background of the logo is simply just a blue sky with clouds. This background may have been chosen to be presented to make sense since rainbows are always outdoors and stand out. the logan: "Taste The Rainbow" is the adverts' slogan which symbolises

 learner response: rewrite to Q5 using the mark scheme. Q5. How are camera shots and mise-en-scene used to create an effect on the audience in the Water Aid advert (Figure 2)? They use close up shots to present a clear image the boy's disappointment on his face. this makes the audience feel a sense of regret and fear for what might happen to the boy in the advert if this continues. Furthermore they arrange the props and the background of the advert to make it seem like this is set in Africa and the boy's old worn out clothes represent so many of the other poor kids in the country. the sun is shining and producing heat constantly which doesn't really help the citizens.
